| Mike Clark |
Sensei Mike Clark, 5th Dan of Sodokan (The creative way school) Goju has followed the teachings of Kanki Izumigawa lineage and studies at his home dojo in Southampton, England. He began his Goju-ryu studies in November 1981 under Sensei David Morris of the Kyudokan. Sensei Morris had initially studied with Rick Woodhams a student of Mark Bishop who in turn had studied under Master Eichii Miyazato in Okinawa. Sensei Clark has also trained with and been influenced by Takeshi Uchiage, Morio Higaonna plus senior students of Seichi Toguchi, Ohtsuka Tadahiko and Seigo Tada.
Having studied with teachers of both Okinawan Goju-ryu and Japanese Goju Kai and of Chinese arts, he has developed a respect for all martial traditions. Sodokan is a synthesis of the two Goju traditions so that the essence may be better perceived. In turn he has taught his students to look at their Goju-ryu with a questioning mind . The Sodokan actively practices the higher level teachings of Goju not usually taught in other schools such as bridging, transition and leading. |
